The End of Season 6

Sorry for the long break between posting but the Commish has been quite busy.

Anyway, last season (2006-07) was probably our best season yet. The season had the most number of teams and was also very competetive. In the end, Enemy of the State became the first team to win the Liga twice. He did so convincingly in the end. The final Liga placings were as follows:

In the Champions Cup, Adam Sabaruddin's Kondrogooners came out as Champions beating LSC in the finals.

The prize giving ceremony was held at Telawi Street Bistro, Bangsar. The ladies giving away the trophies and prizes are courtesy of the Liga Champion, Gerald.

Finally, I would like to thank all the teams that participated and I hope to see most of you next season. Also there is still room for new teams to join the Liga.

Champions welcome

With the dawn of the new season less than 24 hours away, it is only apt that the Champion graces this blogsite with his preliminary thoughts. After last season's shambolic performance by past winners with the exception of the reliable EOS, the liga is clearly one where history counts for nothing. Managers recalling former days of glory and reminding others of their forgotten names on the trophy stinks of a desperation for grandeur long since forgotten in all minds but their own. What matters is the here and now.....who holds the trophy and who will wrest it away come season end. In the light of that, allow me as the incumbent to welcome seasoned hands and liga virgins to the 2006-2007 season.

The lead up to the season has presented us with the customary mouth-running by LSC. For all of you familiar with these antics, less said the better, but as we all know, his position at the end of the last season placed him not on the pitch but somewhere on the subs bench. How apt, as occasionally LSC does make an appearence but is more inclined for bench warming duty and a half time novelty show rather than having any significant impact on proceedings.

Last season's second runner-up, a certain Raz, has been glorifying his late surge to a top three spot during the off-season. A worthy achievement indeed but sadly one based more on form, rather than class. Streaky results could yet again propel him into a position of false hope but reality does bite and this season expect to see him yet again languishing in mid-table obscurity. Blackburn?

Our dear Commish endured a season of highs and lows last year. His beloved Barcelona claimed glory in Europe but his lethargic Maniacs limped their way past the finish line after a Glenfiddich inspired debacle. For all of you not in the know, our Commish commited the cardinal sin and fell asleep while attending to last minute changes, resulting in an incomplete team and a redundant week. Commiserations for the Commish....no no....just laughter. As for this season, expect to see him challenging again for top 10 honours but also expect him to choke at the last moment. For those of you who have had the pleasure of taking his money on the golf course, this is an indisputable fact.

Porno FC is indeed a tricky one. Many seasons and many title challenges....could this be his season? A litany of alliances and top 10 placings have always suggested that Porno could be a threat. However, the eternal nice guy image is one that he surely has to shed if glory is what he seeks. Being there or thereabouts is never enough but shedding old habits is indeed difficult. Perhaps a season of transition for Porno as he needs the conviction to stand alone and be counted rather than hanging onto the coat-tails of the league leader. Dark horse...

There was a point towards the end of last season when Goldie firmly believed that he could wrest the title away from yours truly. This time coincided with a trip overseas for him and resulted in a glorious three game haul. Lacking the usual access to information and last minute change mentality, Goldie managed to propel himself up the league only to surrender a top 3 position in the last 3 weeks. Therein lies the problem. With the amount of information at his fingertips Goldie has yet again proven the adage that quantity is not quality. Will be chasing for honours yet again, but unlikely to last over a season. Tipped heavily for cup glory but liga disappointment unless he can overcome his spongelike need for info and unwavering loyalty to Arsenal players.

On the basis of last season and the year before, one can expect the usual challengers to rise again in the form of Real la hoe, Predator, Tricky Trees, J FC and of course EOS, and it in this lineup where i truly expect the coming season's challenge to come from. These teams have truly surprised me with some inspired selections over the last two campaigns and i strongly urge any newbie to constantly check their sides for who will be the next big thing.

With the amount of anticipation for this season built on the back of a World Cup full of surprises, lets hope for more in the Premiership season ahead. I sincerely hope for more of a challenge this time round as last season's romp to victory brought a fairly muted end to what had promised to be an exciting season. The attempted psychology applied by certain members of the liga at the tailend of the season was to no avail as choking seemed to be my challengers favourite pastime. For all the chat and all the promise of the off-season, the time for idle boasting and banter is over as the season is upon us and let the games begin.

Welcome Back
Its now August and as usual its time for the Liga de Fantasia to return for another season. Last season saw Justin Ong’s Dipsomaniacs end the season at the top of the Liga. Will he be the first back-to-back winner of the Liga? Will he return like most past Champions and languish in mediocrity after winning? Will we have a previous Champion winning again or will it be another first timer??

In the Champions Cup, Michael Lua’s Predator won the Cup for the 3rd consecutive season last. Will his amazing run continue or will someone else finally win the Cup.

These are some of the questions the next 40 weeks will help answer.

Pool Payment
The Liga this season will operate in the same manner it has been operating in for the past 5 seasons. The pool this season will be RM200 as usual and payment needs to be done before Sept. 1 (end of Gameweek 2). Should payment not be received, you will find your team kicked out of the Liga. To get reinstated into the Liga you will have to pay RM250 (pool + RM50 penalty) before Sept. 14 (end Gameweek 4). The Liga will be locked after this date and no team will be allowed to join. This is due to the fact that the Champions Cup is scheduled to start in Week 5 as per last season.

I will forward the Maybank and RHB account to which you can deposit the pool payment via email later this week

Newbies
To those of you joining us for the first time. I warn you that this is a very competitive league. There has been many newbies joining the Liga confident that they will ‘whip the asses’ of the oldies here, only to end the season disappointed never to be seen again. Nevertheless, there has also been newbies that are now permanent to the Liga and have fight for top positions.

Also, to the newbies, please do not take any comments made by other managers to heart. Here the mantra is “Make noise when you’re on top, shut up when you’re down” so verbal bashing is usual here. If you cant take it, you’re in the wrong league.

Dear Managers,

I assume most of you cannot wait for the upcoming FF season. Prior to that let me first congratulate the winners of our World Cup pools. I am very sorry I havent had time to report anything on this blog as I have been damn busy.

I also appologize for not yet posting pictures from last season's Prize Giving ceremony, again I blame work. I have been swamped. Anyway, I will contact the winners of the pool and post the pictures of the ceremony on this blog as soon as I can find the time.

Now on the the upcoming FF season.

This coming season I will not be leniant on pool payment. Anybody that does not pay by the RM200 by the determined time will be kicked out of the league. There will be an extra RM50 penalty to be reinstated into the league. Reinstation into the League can only be done within 2 weeks of being kicked out. After that the Liga will be closed. Further explanation on this will be made upon opening of the new season.

I would like to appologize to all for being 'off the ball' lately. The truth is I've been swamped with work. Posting this message at 9.30pm on a Sunday night from the office just says it all (I've been here since 10am)

Anyway, I would like to congratulate Dipsomaniacs on a great season. A new Champ is always good. I would also like to congratulate Predator on an amazing hattrick of Champions Cups.

A tremendous season in Liga de Fantasia is finally over and cries can be heard....The King is dead, Long live the King! After a turbulent early part of the season, Dipsomaniacs showed both nerve and quality to top the table when the final rankings were released yesterday. When asked, Dipsomaniacs manager Justin Ong had the following to say: "Its a true credit to the quality of the league that the gap between ourselves and 9th place Goldie is under a 100 pts. However, I have to admit that midway through the season, when the gap was so substantial we all lost interest in the league as it was becoming too easy. Previous winners Maniacs, LSC and Razmatazz made it too easy for us as they capitulated too early on with only EOS showing some staying power. Admittedly Raz made a strong comeback in the final hurdles of the season but I believe that was only due to luck rather than any true quality. I guess it required a lapse in our concentration to allow for some sort of competition to arise."
Arrogant words some may say, but then again history has always been written by the victors. He added further, "My favourite point in the season? I guess it would have to be a toss-up between making Goldie drop Owen the weekend he scored a hat-trick and our dear Commish doing what can only be referred to now as a Jojo in week 36. On a personal note, I can only hope that I will not emulate last year's winner by doing what shall be hence known as a Timmy, and finishing....well...i dont know where....its truly a shame that last year's win and promise should be followed by such a dismal yet loquacious season culminating in complete obscurity. As much as i wish him all the best for the following season, i feel that his focus should instead rest on the sport suggested by his handle. On a more positive note, special mention must be made of Porno FC, where considerable endeavour has been shown with many pressure situations taking its toll.....as Porno's hairdresser can attest to. As a final note, let me congratulate everyone on doing well this season, you are all equal in my eyes....all second place....and all below me....muhahahahaha!!!"

The last week of the season and there's still so much to play for.

The top 10 is still undefined at this stage ... Razzmatazz shocked everyone by heading up to the 3rd. spot after languishing in anonymity for large periods of this season. Who would have thought such revival was possible?

But this is it ... the final week!

It's been fun at least for those who have actively participated ... the league has been a source of good banter for the successful teams and abuse for the not-so-successful ones. I for one can't wait for August to come round again ... for now, I'm looking forward to the season's end get-together and to the World Cup!

And yes, better luck next season, Timmissimo hahahahahaha

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Predator for winning the Champions Cup for the third year running. This domination of the Cup is truly an amazing feat. Are we going to let him keep the trophy?? Should we decide to do so, we need a trophy donation for next season.

Some of you might have realized that I received 0.00 points in the most crucial of times (Week 36’s double game week). A word of advice. NEVER “check” your team 1 minute before deadline when you’re drunk, coz you could accidentally remove a player from your team and not have time to put him back in (at 2.29am I had 11 players, at 2.30 deadline time I had 10). I think it was a strategy by Porno FC to eliminate one competitor :) To make things worst I would have gotten a decent 160+ points from the week. Anyways, that life…

Finally, there are still teams owing the Liga pool money. Should teams not pay, the Liga payout for the winners will reduce proportionately and these teams will be banned next season.

Nottingham Forest went into the play-offs for the first time this season with their 6th win in a row and a 10 match unbeaten run since that mug, Gary Megson left!

I'd like to think that my inisistent support and visit to the City Ground 2 weeks ago had something to do with this sudden turn of events.

This has absolutely nothing to do with FF but who cares? Chelsea has won the title, that's a foregone conclusion! Dipsomaniacs look to win the FF title unless his nerves breaks down ... it's a shame that Enemy of the State do not indulge in mind games ala Fergie!

I want in on the Top 5 spot!! Nisteroy and Real Whasisname ... you have been warned!

Much Ado With Dipsomaniacs, Malaysian 'Own goal' Maniacs & Razzmatazz

One thing that the league have always delivered especially at the end of the season is excitement. No team has won the league outright come the final weeks of the season since its inauguration. This season is no different. Just when everyone thought Dipsomaniacs was falling apart he made one big effort and fought back. With 2 1/2 weeks remaining he came from behind and created a gap up front against season campaigner and ex-champion Enemy of The State. Bravo Justin.

But another story just as big is Malaysian Maniacs fall from grace. He committed school boy error by messing about with his team pissed drunk and left a player short before passing out. Such mistakes are more likely to be committed by the likes of Razmatazz, Golmember and Porno. But by Commissioner?? Simply shocking. Our RM200 side bet a week ago looked like a forgone conclusion with him walking away with the dosh. Now I am in the driving seat to win the bet.

La Squadra Ciclista Timmissimo is back within striking distance of Razmatazz even though the latter was assisted by Yahoo sudden change with its listing of matches e.g., Arsenal-Portsmouth in Week 36. With Porno sudden lost of form, a Top 10 finish looks a distinct possibility.

This week (week 36) is the Final of the Champions Cup between Predator and ReallaHwyCarunia.

Predator will be gunning for its 3rd straight Cup. Will Realla... be able to stop the Liga cup team.

All the best to both teams. Please remember that the Final is a 'one off' match. There is no two legs similar to the UEFA Champions League.

Last words from the defending champion

With only 6 weeks left to decide the championship, the league is very open with Dipsomaniacs feeling the pressure.

Our competitive league has similar come-from-behind wins on the last day with Enemy of the State in 2003-04, myself in 2004-2005 and this season the league is very open with even 5th position, Porno FC, having a sniff at top spot.

Another point to note is the capitulation of Malaysian Maniacs. A front-runner for most of the season, only to drop off the pace in March. Odds are they will finish no better than they have for the past few years.

As the most successful club in La Liga, LSC Timmissimo current position is quite unacceptable. We would like to finish the league above Razzmatazz, possibly 12th in the league. After weeks stuck in 14th, it is a good feeling to be able to climb above a scouser club.

I will give the championship trophy a good polish to hand over to the new champion during the price giving piss-up. Would it be Dipsomaniacs? Predator? Enemy of the State? J FC? Or even Porno FC?

If Predator or EotS were to nick the championship, it would mean that LSC Timmissimo will seize to be the most successful club and J FC is our bitter derby rival. So personally I hope Justin of Dipsomaniac would come out the winners. But I bumped into him at Asian Heritage Row and the old boy looked somewhat edgy.

Again I appologise for the lack of updating. I have been damn busy. This is also reflected in my performance in the Liga. Anyway, below is a short report.

Liga De Fantasia

With 7 gameweeks to go (yahoo lists to Week 38), it looks like Dipsomaniacs can only lose the title. They currently hold a 64 point lead against 2003-04 Champions, Enemy of The State. Dipsomaniacs have been on top of the Liga for over 2 months now. Nevertheless, we have seen bigger leads go down the drain. (last season ending decline of Nisteroy comes to mind). Behaind Enemy of the State there is a major scramble for ‘in the money’ places.

Champions Cup

Week 30 was the 2nd leg of the quarterfinals of the Champions Cup. Please refer to the excel file for the results. There are no draws in this stage as it is knockout. So the semifinal matches are:

Semi 1 – Nisteroy vs. Real LaWh……..
Semi 2 – Predator vs. Golmember

These matches will be played in Week 32 and33

Predator is bidding for their 3rs straight Champions Cup. Unbelievable!!

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the lack of reporting in the Liga and Champions Cup. I have been rather busy. Anyway, below is the latest report.

Liga De Fantasia
Dipsomaniacs maintains it position at the top of the heap. They have been the team with the longest staying power at the top position so far this season. The manager, Mr. Justin Ong, is asking for some respect towards his team. Predator is currently at its highest position of 2nd place and the Malaysian Maniacs are in third.

In the Liga, Dipsomaniacs maintained top spot whilst stretching the lead to 2nd place to 63 points. Top scorer was Buscar Flete with 105.5 points. and SHELLshocked did it again... He only had 10 players in his team hence receiving 0.00 points. All in all it was a low scoring week.

Theirry Henry’s 47.50 points in week 23 caused major movements in the Liga and some unexpected results in the Champions Cup. Porno FC now leads the Liga but the top 5 is just covered by 25 points. Top scorer of the week was therafalution with 138 points.

Dear Managers,

Week 21 saw Oukman FC score the highest points for the week. Nevertheless he is still languishing in 29th position. At the top Dipsomanics is still at #1. Malaysian Maniacs who lost the top position 2 weeks ago climbed back from 7th to 2nd with Porno FC just 1.5 points behind.

In my view any team in the top 20 can still realistically win the Liga and those lower can still end up “in the money” if they can string a succession of good weeks. With the transfer window open and plenty of new signings expected in the EPL, opportunities to score will be there.

A Note From The Commish.

Firstly I would like to apologize for the delay in the updates. I have been away and quite busy.

During my absence two teams claimed #1 spot. In Week 18 it was Predator. Week 19 saw a new team take over the #1 position in the Liga. Dipsomaniacs, took a long patient climb from #32 in Week 4 to #1 in Week 19. This clearly proves that even the bottom teams still have a fighting chance as there is still half a season to go.

Week 18 was also Matchday 4 of the Champions Cup. Please refer to the email I sent for the results and current table standings. The next Champions Cup match will be in Week 21.

The short term fix to this grave and desperate times is retail therapy. Rather basikal retail therapy to be succinct (not sure if this is the correct spelling). When the going gets tough, the tough goes to Bikepro Centre.

The Curse of Thailand

It happened to me while I was in Phuket. It was the lowest score in Porno FC's history.

Then it happened to Tricky Trees, a wedding to attend in Bangkok, and it was the Champions Cup weekend against Porno FC.

The curse hit Tricky as Porno whipped his ass, it was biggest margin in the Champions Cup history.

Now lets pray the same curse would hit Maniacs while he's in Phuket. Forutunately for everyone, IAS (soon to be relegated team) would be joining him there and he will make sure the Maniacs are distracted-ly drunk to think about football.

And may the internet connection that you come across charge you 300bath for 10 minutes with a 256kb connection.

He was before my time. I only saw him in a Man United club video my late grandfather bought for me when I was 12. Before that, my memories of Best was when my uncle told me to do 'a Best' everytime I was kicking the ball about in the garden.

Best footage in the video was in black & white. Watching it from a 20" TV, it didnt create a big expression for a kid who had a huge Steve Coppell poster hanging on his wall. I only knew he was a legend and a Man United icon. And I loved Stevie to bits. He was my man, as gay as this sound.

I watched a lot of video footage of Georgie Best when I was in London later in my late teens. At the time Man United had not won the league for almost 20 years and all they could muster in marketing sense was to re-issue past great players. I then could understand how he single handedly made Man United the first club to break geographical boundaries in terms of football fans.

There was a few who came to the scene and was touted the next Best. I remember Arsenal's Charlie 'Champagne' Nicholas who came over from Celtic but he disappeared after a couple of years.

IMFO, one player who played as beautifully as Best was Gianluigi Lentini. That languid winger's gait, dribbling the ball with either leg and the ability to put it in the net. Lentini in his full stride looks like a ballerina. He did not really recover from his car crash, when he lost control of his 911 driving down from a ski resort in the Alps.

As a kid, you get mesmerised by those guys running with the ball on the byline taking on opponents. When I read about Steve Coppell retirement due to a dodgy knee in The Star, I cried. My mom thought I would grow up and become a trannie. But what do Mothers know about football aye? Except of course if your mother is Greek.

Cheers to all the wingers. Especially to one of the greatest wingers of them all, Georgie Best. Say hello to the cycling saint, Marco Pantani, up there in the heavens. Tell him I'll never forget him. Ever.

The former is the most successful club in La Liga history and the latter is the perennial nearly men. Although contrasting in fortune, the rivalry between these two clubs are intense. Although Timmissimo made a sluggish start (by their standards) to the season, they are using this match as a launching pad to put a good run of form to fill more trophies in its cabinet.

A section of Timmissimo's extreme left wing known as Ultras have vandalised part of the club's Velodrome (& not stadium coz its a cycling club maa) to demonstrate its anger over the club's position below Razzmatazz in the league.

Week 11 saw some of the lowest scoring in the history of Liga. The top scorer for the week was Liverpool Always FC with 96.50 points. He was the only team with the Ameobi / Emre combination. Woeihern Warriors maintained their position at the top of the Liga for the second consecutive week. Their lead is extended from 3 points last week to almost 30 points this week. The lowest scorer for the week was Porno FC with only 30 points.

Week 12 marks the start of the Champions Cup. The final four teams to qualify into the 1st Phase are Synergy, KL Kangtao, Venus XI and El Madrigal. For those that didn’t qualify a UEFA Cup style knock out competition will start after the end of the 1st Phase of the Champions Cup.

Week 10 in Review

Week 10 saw a new team top the Liga with WoeiHern Warriors leading The Liga by a mere 3 points to the Maniacs and 3.5 points to EoS. Week 10 also was also a record breaking week as Venus XI became the first female managed team to top score in a Week. Venus XI accumulated 122 points for week 10. At the other end of the spectrum, Injured All Stars got the lowest points for the week.

Week 10 was also the first round matches for the final qualifying stage for the Champions Cup. I will forward everyone the e-mail tommorrow with the updated scoresand results from the first leg. Week 11 will be the second leg of the qualifying.

For all the teams that have automatically qualified, please be aware that Week 12 will be the commencement for the first stage of the Competition.

Thierry Henry, The King if Fantasy Football, returns to the realm this weekend after scoring both goals in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League victory. Nicol David became the first Malaysian to reach the Finals of the prestigious British Open when she defeated World No.1 and two time defending Champion Rachel Grinham of Australia. This is her first attempt at the Senior class and she enters the Finals as favourite as the other two semi-finalists are ranked 4th and 7th in the world respectively.

The great but flawed Marco Pantani died of cocaine overdosed triggered by acute depression. He was singled out and prosecuted by the UCI and Italian authorities. Marco, on his day, was poetry in motion.

Just like his half cousin, the defending champion is going through severe bout of depression. No amount of prozac, lithium and other happy pills can get La Campionissimo out of his hole. Week 8 In Review

After the completion of Week 8, only two teams have maintained an average of over 100 points a week. The two teams above the 800 point mark is Enemy of the State and Malaysian Maniacs. There were many movements up and down the Liga table but the most noted was Woeihern Warriors jump from 6th to tied 3rd and Knife Fork & Spoons drop from 5th to 10th place. Bangsargooner got the most points with 141.5 points. With this they climbed from 21st to 14th place. Team Gunny Gugu made the blunder of having only 10 players hence receiving 0.00 points.

9 Point Gain?? Is that it??

After so much noise and waste of energy by Timmissimo, LSC will only get to gain 9 points on the Maniacs for Week 7. Just 9 points??

Lets put this into perspective, Week 1 the Maniacs trashed LSC by 35.5 points, Week 2 we beat them by 19.5 points, Week 4 by 21 points. It's noted that LSC got better points in Week 3 by 11.5 points but does doing better in two weeks by a total of 20.5 points justify the noise and postings done by LSC, I dont think so.

Like I said in a previous comments, I will not layan LSC anymore until they are on equal/better standing as the Manics. Its such a waste of time to trash talk against managers that have no bearing on the current standings at the top of the table. Its like Paul Jewell trash talking Mourinho or Sir Alex, the latter just won't listen or give a shit. Right now, I don't either (to any comments by LSC)

With only 9 points separating them, this looks to be a realistic possibility. Maniacs will probably drop to 4th position with SHELLshocked having yet another mazy start to the league.

“All teams will encounter weeks where the results just don’t go your way. To win you have to minimise these weeks and have a few really good ones” said Jojo, Manager of the Malaysian Maniacs, after his teams dismal performance in Week 6 which should drop his team to 4th place, 3rd at best.

On the issue of goalkeeper, he stated that the team has signed on a top keeper for the remainder of the season. He also added that what happened to Warner (own goal) is just part and parcel of the game. “We have had keeper issues but even with this problem we are still in the top group fighting for top spot every week. There are still 34 teams below us. There are teams that have had Van De Sar from Week 1 but are still languishing mid table. One player does not make a team. You need a well balanced squad.” It was pretty obvious that he wasn’t going to name teams but from our best guess he was referring to LSC Timmisimo.

When asked on how he will play the remainder of the season, “we will play how we have played the last few weeks. Conservative. Let the other teams take risks to close the gap. We are comfortable where we are now. If they make good calls, well good for them. If not they will slip even further behind.”

Before ending the interview he made one last statement “I would just like to say to the other managers in positions below us not to make any comments until they are in the same standing as us. It will be like spitting in their own face if they do because right now, they’re just not good enough”

LSC Yobs vented their anger on the manager as they saw their team plummet further down the table after Monday night. Even Pantani was heard saying "Can he stop making inferences to our good name? It's embarassing."

Not only is the gulf of points widening between LSC and the top 4*, they are moving closer to being in the same half as their perenial neighbouring rival, JFC. Last season second place team, Nisteroy said "Doesn't matter what he say la, as long as he still below me."

Dear Managers,

Please ensure that I receive payment (RM200) to the account numbers as per the e-mail sent to all of you before 16 Sept 2005. Should payment not be received you will find your team "kicked out" of the League. The League Commisioner has a special 'button' to expel teams from Private Leagues.

This date is chosen as the qualifying for the Champions Cup will start on the next week. Therefore, those that dont pay, will not be in the Champions Cup.

Last season I was lenient with late payers by not kicking them out. In the end I had to fork out my own money to ensure sufficiency as per the budget. Due to this I will not be lenient this season.

It was more of a land with slow internet connection. Made the right decision to drop henry but with the extra dough, made the mistake on not getting a Manutd striker or change the keeper.

Like some other managers, Porno FC will not use this as an excuse. Instead, it will consolidate the team and will target to be in the top 10 by end September. "We will see how the team's standing by end Sept, before deciding on any further actions" said the manager with a smile.

Porno FC will go through a major 'overhaul' and will be putting a brand new team from Week 5. "it'll be like the beginnig of the season for us. We have to put the 'Thai-disaster' aside and look forward to the future" said the manager in the end of the Press Conference.

Tricky Trees has indeed regained the top spot after a week in 2nd spot. LSC's unfounded comments that TT is a flash in the wok was just that - unfounded.

The TT fans were heard chanting to the downtrodden LSC fans.

The LSC yobs when interviewed commented "We wish our manager would stop talking tripe and get our team going. It's ridiculous to be commenting on other teams when we have not even been in the top 5. My missus could have picked a better team this week and she doesn't even know the difference between the Arse's Henry and Henry who works as a butcher down the street."

The TT manager prefered to be philosophical than to go into an exchange with the yobs saying "Our team is certainly growing from strength to strength, and we can only get better. LSC took a risk in retaining Henry. Calculated or desperation, only time will tell, but at this early point of the season, all seasoned managers will tell you, it's the points that count. And we are where we are today by merit."

I find your last post a hilarity.

You were champions in the league inaugural season when two thirds of the teams were playing fantasy sport for the very first time. You flopped in the following seasons. You were the perennial mid table team. You were not good enough to be in the top 10.

You cannot deploy personal reasons as excuses for your failures. Sven Goran did not use his affair with the scrumptuous Ms. Alam as the reason for England's trophiless cabinet. As they say, its all about the result.

Timmissimo is the most consistent club in the league history. They won the Champions Cup in their first season, top 6 finish the following season and are now the league defending champion. They are the only club to have won both league and cup.

Comparing us is like comparing Arsenal and West Ham.

But you are right about the fruit orchard club, Tricky Trees, who cracked under pressure on the final week of the season and lost a podium finish. Their selection of Crespo - Drogba combo upfront for a two-game week is amatuerish at best. The ability to do well in a two-game week is what separate the men and the peasants.

Just like the discovery of a new constellation, Ophiuchus, the Liga contenders has recently seen Tricky Trees outscoring all of the 38 teams to take the Week 1 lead, including last season champions, LSC.

An independent observer said "LSC poor start could be due to the fact that they do not have the unlimited purse to spend as in previous season. They have to be prudent now and to actually use their limited football knowlegde to pull a team together. They are now 38 teams in the league - out of which at least half of that are seasoned campaigners. Even Ladbrokes have got heavy odds stacked against them to make the top 5."

When reached for comment, the manager for Tricky Trees with tongue in cheek said "It's tough when reality bites and when your selection doesn't pay off. When you're a durian, petai and belacan munching local, it shows. Everyone wants to be an Italian ... even a Albanian refugee turns out in a Pizza Hut commercial as an Italian. LSC should know their place - when they should speak and when they should clam up and accept they just weren't good enough. Special one? The Liga table looks a bit odd at the moment. A bit like seeing Sauber leading a grand prix. Or a Malaysian team pulling the peloton in Le Tour de Langkawi.

Week 2

This week is an important week for most managers as it is a 2-game week for some teams. Although its still early days in fantasy football terms, a good Week 2 may have long term consequences to a lot of teams. This coming week your gap to other teams can either widen or lessen substantially.

Is it worth keeping Rooney, Van de Sar, Etherington, Reina and Reo-Coker although they are only playing one game?
Will their one game score be more that a replacement playing two games?
Which player will score in both their games? Which will disappoint?
Who sill start both of Chelsea’s home games? Drogba? Crespo? J.Cole? Duff? Robben?

There are plenty of questions to be answered, it’s your call as a manager to make the correct one.

Champions Cup 2005-06 - Game Format

Due to the 38 team involvement in the League this seasons Champions Cup will be played in a similar format as the UEFA Champions League. The top 28 teams as at the end of Week 4 will have automatic qualification into Phase 1 (Group Stages) of the Champions Cup starting Week 12. The bottom 10 teams will play in the qualifying knockout (QKO) stage in Weeks 5, 7, 9 & 11. There are 4 places available for the 10 teams in the QKO.

For the Newbies, the Cup Competition is played on a head-to-head format. This means that you will ‘play’ against another team. Winning, losing or getting a draw depends on your points for that week only (or total of two weeks, if applicable). Eg. Team A – 120 points vs. Team B – 85 points. Team A wins.

Qualifying Knockout (QKO) Stage 1
The bottom 4 teams of the League at end Week 4 will play this stage only. This stage will be played over two legs in Week 5 & 7. The total amount of points scored in these two weeks will determine the winner of the match. Winner proceeds to QKO Stage 2. The matches are as follows:

Match 1 – Team No. 35 vs. Team No. 38
Match 2 – Team No. 36 vs. Team No. 37

Winners proceeds to QKO Stage 2. Should there be a draw (exactly the same total points), higher placed team in league proceeds.

Qualifying Knockout (QKO) Stage 2
This stage will be played over two legs in Week 9 & 11. The total amount of points scored in these two weeks will determine the winner of the match. Winner proceeds to Phase 1 – Group Stages. The matches are as follows:

Match A – Team No. 29 vs. QKO Match 2 Winner
Match B – Team No. 30 vs. QKO Match 1 Winner
Match C – Team No. 31 vs. Team No. 34
Match D – Team No. 32 vs. Team No. 33

Winners proceeds to Phase 1 – Group Stages. Should there be a draw (exactly the same total points), higher placed team in league proceeds.

Phase 1 – Group Stage
32 Teams will be divided into 8 Groups of 4 teams based on seeding position. Seeding is based on positions at the end of Week 4. Each team will play all teams in their group twice (home & away format) . Therefore, teams will play 6 games in this Stage. Teams will get 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. A draw is when teams have points within 7 points of each other. Eg. Team A – 99 points vs. Team B – 92 points. Hence, a draw.

The top 2 teams from each group will proceed to Phase 2 – Knockout Stage.

Phase 2 – Knockout Stage
16 teams from the group stages will play in the KO stage based on seedings. The stage is over two legs. Total points over the two legs will determine the winner. Winners will proceed to the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals, Semifinals & Finals
Will be played as per the Phase 2 – Knockout Stage. With winners proceeding to the next round.

What a first week!

After nites of deliberation and second-guessing, I stuck with the 3-5-2 formation. Dropped Bent in favor of an extra midfielder. Possibly a bad decision but given that he's only got one game this week, it can't be all that bad!

Dropped Lampard, Terry and the idea of having Robben in the team and it paid off. Etherington and Reo-Coker, you are gems! And they said Championship players can't hack it ... Reo-Coker, u the man!

Itchy Fingers Syndrome.... Week 1

Week 1 is our first taste of Yahoo's new rules and the return of the Itchy Fingers Syndrome "IFS". This week the Malaysian Maniacs got hit by this disease big time.

Case 1
For over 10 days Darren Bent was in the squad. He was even mentioned to another manager as the 'secret weapon' for Week 1. But low and behold the IFS took over. He was swapped for Cisse on Friday who played for only 30 minutes and got 2.50 points. Bent g0t 20 points.

Case 2
Claus Jensen. Had him for about the same time as Bent but on Saturday (before the deadline) swapped him for Tommy Miller aka Mini-Lampard. Mini Lampard my Foot!! He only got 2.00 points in comparison to Jensens 13.50 points.

Now I only hope Fabregas gets more points than Hleb as Hleb was in the squad everyday until Saturday.

The Wait is Almost Over...

In a few hours time the EPL season will officially kick off. It marks the start of Fantasy Football and -

i) agonizing for days over a certain player who you think will do well in FF over the weekend only to pick him and the Gaffer rests him on the pine;

ii) banging your head on the wall for dropping a player you had on your team on Monday but not on Saturday when he scores a brace;

iii) feeling guilty when hoping your fantasy player scores against a team you have supported all your life;

iv) being completely overjoyed when your players scores;

v) feeling bummed again when almost every other team has him too;

vi) feeling even worse when your player gets a yellow card and

vii) the return of the 'Itchy Fingers Syndrome' a disease that gets to all Fantasy Managers when you fingers do the team changing without consulting your brain.

Can't decide on this one ... the midfielders are evenly spread. You can get some decent ones for about 5-6. I would love to have both Lampard and Gerard and have 2-3 crap midfielders, but I can't. I have officially dropped Terry and my defence including keeper has not changed from Day 1. So I will only be juggling between my midfield and forwards.

Anyone wanna post their first eleven? hehehe

Hey Commish, how's about an impromptu "de Fantasia Piala Sumbangsih"?

To Henry or Not To Henry

2 days before EPL kicks off and that's the question in all the Manager's head. As for Porno FC we have at this moment decided to drop him. "We wish to see Henry getting a red card this Saturday" say the ever cool manager of Porno FC. "Henry looks un-impressive during the Community Shield, and the decision to drop him has given Porno FC a lot of options. We shall include Rooney or Ronaldo in the team" added the manager.

Apart from the new format, this season looks set to be very interesting, and lessons learnt from last season - never give up till the end !!!

Good Luck to all Managers. As for Porno FC, we're looking to have the same start as last season - at the TOP.

League Locking & Details

Two Things:

(1) I will lock the League on Saturday 13 August to ensure that people don't change teams if they have two teams under different Yahoo I/D's . Once locked, only I can add and remove teams.

(2) Could you please register your name, team name and e-mail address at the comments (Managerial Outbursts!!) section below. This is for administrative reasons. It would make my job a lot easier as I'm getting a lot of returned mail from defunct e-mail addresses.

League Created

Dear Managers,

The League has been set up for team registration. The details required for League registration is as follows:

Group I/D #: 322
Password: jojo.

Please be aware that the Rules of the game has changed from last season, scoring is also different. Therefore, the onus is on you to read the Rules.

As for pool payment, I will give detail in upcoming postings. The pool fee is maintained at RM200 and payment has to made by the end of Week 4 or I will kick your team out of the League.

Message From The Commissioner

Firstly, I would like to welcome everyone back to a new season of Fantasy Football.

To the 'old timers' its a new start, forget about previous seasons. Whether you did well or if you did really bad it matters none. What matters is to try to reach the pinnacle of Liga for this upcoming season and have your name forever engraved on the Trophy.

To the 'newbies', some of you come with good reputations, some with no experience. Again, it matters none. A warning to the newbies, as you can see from the blog description, the mantra for the League is "Make noise when you're on top, shut up when you're down". There will be plenty of 'bashing/kutuking' amongst managers. Some even to the extent of calling your mother a whore. Please remember it's all in good fun. Have a go at other managers (at your own risk). If you think you can't take the heat, this is not the League for you.

Secondly, is the matter of Pool registration money. Last season it was RM200 per team. There has been requests to increase this amount but as you all know, this is a democratic League. There needs to be majority agreement before any increase. (Leave comments please)

Also, this season I am going to be really strict on pool payment. If you dont pay by end of Week 4, you'll be kicked out of the League (it doesn't matter if you're friend or family). This is because last season there were teams that didn't pay. Hence, The Commish had to fork out the shortage.

Finally, I hope everyone enjoys this season as I am pretty sure it will be the most competetive yet.
